VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS AND DEAN OF GRADUATE STUDIES

 

Viterbo University (www.viterbo.edu) is accepting nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Graduate Studies.  Reporting to the President, the VPAA is the chief academic officer responsible for the quality of the academic curriculum, providing leadership to the faculty, and supporting the mission and values of the University.

Position responsibilities (include, but not limited to):

  • Coordinates the academic program of the university including planning and developing course schedules, academic standards, program development and evaluation, evaluation of teaching and educational support services.
  • Develops and fosters positive and productive relationships among the university and its various constituencies including the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees, the Board of Advisors, and key organizations in the La Crosse Community.
  • Articulates and implements the vision and strategic plan for Academic Affairs.
  • Provides leadership for the Academic Affairs personnel in performing their assigned responsibilities.
  • Manages the academic organizational structure of the university and articulates the roles and responsibilities within that structure, establishing goals and measures of success.
  • In consultation with the President and Vice President for Finance and Administration determines budget priorities and administers those priorities for the Academic Affairs Division.
  • Coordinates, monitors, and assures implementation of the university’s plan for assessment of student learning, curriculum development, and faculty development.
  • Supervises and provides leadership in personnel selection and staff development in academic areas, encouraging all toward continuous improvement.
  • Consults with and informs the president on educational programs and maintains appropriate liaison with the president on general university programs.
  • Provides for the updating and publication of academic regulations, catalogues, and documents relevant to the educational mission of the university.
  • Provides leadership to graduate programs and graduate faculty, encourages and supports faculty scholarship, and promotes a culture of research at the university.
  • Embraces values and behaviors closely aligned with Viterbo’s Catholic Franciscan mission and identity, the student centered environment, and the liberal arts foundation of the university.
  • Serves as the university’s primary liaison to the Higher Learning Commission and monitors compliance with accreditation standards of the commission and other disciplinary accrediting agencies.

                                     

Required qualifications, skills and accomplishments:

  • An earned doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution;
  • Ten years of combined experience in a teaching and/or administrative role in a not-for-profit college or university;
  • Demonstrated commitment to and leadership in higher education;
  • Evidence of:
    • A commitment to excellence in teaching
    • A proven track record in strategic planning and academic administration
    • Highly effective team building and conflict management skills
    • Building partnerships and collaboration with internal and external constituencies
    • Ability to work in a complex organization and a deep understanding of a diversity of academic program offerings
    • Data driven decision making
    • Ability to synthesize ideas and articulate thoughtful recommendations to and from faculty, deans, cabinet, and the president
    • Proven fiscal experience and skills
    • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks
    • Actively supporting access, innovation, and engagement for all students, faculty and administration
    • A commitment to diversity
    • Success in working with deans and faculty on the processes of promotion and tenure
  • Understanding and experience with instructional technology, distance education, and online delivery of programs and courses;
  • Experience with regional accreditation and professional/disciplinary accreditation associations; and
  • Exemplary interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
